Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment that uses clear plastic aligners to gently move your teeth into their correct alignment. The aligners are nearly invisible while being worn, so no one will know that you’re having orthodontic treatment unless you tell them.
Invisalign corrects a variety of dental imperfections, including:
Like traditional braces, Invisalign guides your teeth to their correct positions with a series of small, incremental movements. Your orthodontist at Braces Culture begins treatment by taking molds and photos of your teeth. Using these images, your orthodontist plans the progressive movement of your teeth.
Your orthodontist sends this plan to an Invisalign lab where your aligners are custom-made to guide your teeth through the series of adjustments. When your aligners are ready, you have an appointment to start wearing the aligners.
You wear each set of aligners for two weeks before changing them for the next set of aligners in the series.
You have appointments with your orthodontist every two weeks for the first two months of treatment to change your aligners and ensure your treatment begins as planned. Then, once you and your orthodontist are satisfied that treatment is going well, you’ll take two or three sets of aligners home with you and change them on your own.
You still have orthodontic appointments every four to six weeks for your orthodontist to check your progress.
The two main benefits of Invisalign treatment are that the aligners are invisible and that you can remove them yourself. Invisalign is a popular orthodontic treatment with older adolescents and adults who don’t want to live with a mouth full of metal during their treatment.
You can remove your aligners to eat and clean your teeth. This means that you don’t have to avoid any of your favorite foods (although you should avoid snacking between meals and chewing gum). You also remove your aligners to brush and floss your teeth.
You need to wear your aligners for at least 22 hours a day for the treatment to be effective.
